Smart Gilas 2 16-man pool from the PBA

Smart Gilas Pilipinas head coach Chot Reyes announced the 16 PBA players who will be part of the Smart Gilas 2 pool of players. Smart Gilas II will be composed of the PBA pool together with the pool from the amateur ranks which will be announced soon.

New Smart Gilas Coach Chot Reyes

Chot Reyes of Talk N Text will get another shot at handling the National Basketball Team, this time with Smart Gilas, or sometimes called Smart Gilas 2.0. Coach Rajko Toroman ( who is now an SMC Consultant) handled the 1st Smart Gilas team and placed 4th in the FIBA Asia Championship last year.

Coach Chot will handle the new Smart Gilas program which has a new goal which is to gain one of the top three slots in the 2013 FIBA-Asia Championship which will qualify the team to the 2014 FIBA World Championship.

Jong Uichico joins Smart Gilas

Barangay Ginebra Coach Jong Uichico is now with the Smart Gilas Pilipinas National Basketball Team. Uichico who spent 18 years under San Miguel Corporation will be part of the Coaching Staff of Smart Gilas.

In other news, previous Smart Gilas CoachRajko Toroman will be back in the country at the end of January and he will either sign a contract extension or say goodbye to Philippine Basketball.

PBA debut stats of Smart Gilas Players

The Smart Gilas players already had their debut in the PBA Philippine Cup (Except for JV Casio-injured and Dylan Ababou-did not play due to coach decision).

Smart Gilas players applauded in the PBA Opening

All the Smart Gilas Pilipinas players attended the PBA 37th Season Opening Ceremonies held on October 2, 2011 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. The Smart Gilas team was applauded by the crowd even Chris Tiu who did not join the PBA draft and Marcus Douthit, who may play as an import in the next conference.

Coach Rajko Toroman who has no contract extension yet was in attendance also and congratulated his players on turning pro.
