The Final Four
There are no easy paths to Rio. And if this game is any indication, that road moving forward will be tougher to trek, lined all the more with roadblocks of all kinds.
Gilas 3.0 ran into a roadblock last night—a game and hard-charging Lebanese squad—and for most of the match, the nationals’ journey to Rio looked one scoring drought way from being derailed.
The Grind Begins
Make no mistake about it: Gilas 3.0 is a team full of potential. Now, it seems that potential is finally making way for possibilities—tantalizing possibilities.
A day after defeating mighty Iran, Gilas 3.0 went right back to work, routing India 99–65 behind another sensational second half. The win, highlighted by a 24–0 run in the payoff period and capped by a Terrence Romeo-to-Matt Ganuelas alley-oop, gave the nationals the top seed in Group E, setting up a date with a resurgent Lebanon squad in the win-or-go-home quarterfinals.

The Passion of Pingris
The backlash was immediate and predictably unpleasant, vile even.
The hero had turned heel; the patriot, now a traitor.
The criticisms were harsh, and largely uncalled for, really. Yet Marc Pingris took them all in—the spiteful comments that he had sold his basketball soul for money, the unflattering insinuations that he now loves the hand that feeds him more than his country, and the foul accusations that he has turned his back on flag and country—like the upstanding man he has become.
Through all the bashing, Marc Pingris stayed silent.
