When coach Chot Reyes reassumed coaching duties for Gilas, he bared his plan to tap into Philippine basketball’s young talent, with an eye on the 2019 World Cup and beyond. This meant that one Gabriel Daniel V. Norwood would likely be out of the national team pool.
‘Happy and excited’ Almazan treasuring Gilas experience
Raymond Almazan is treasuring the experiencing of playing for Gilas Pilipinas.
The Rain or Shine forward will be making his maiden stint for the national basketball team when the Philippines takes on Myanmar in the opener of the 2017 SEABA Championships here in Manila, and Almazan said he is “happy and excited” to be part of the roster.
“One of my dreams makapaglaro sa bayan natin, i-represent yung country natin. Ang mahalaga dito yung nasa harap ng jersey mo eh,” Almazan said.

SBP president Al Panlilio just announced the new Gilas Pilipinas Player Pool for 2017 led by Jayson Castro, Calvin Abueva, Terrence Romeo, Japeth Aguilar and June Mar Fajardo. 1st competition will be for the 2017 SEABA Championship this April headed by Gilas Pilipinas Coach Chot Reyes.

Ming Ming Brothers: The Terrence Romeo & Bobby Ray Parks tandem
The Philippines’ men’s national basketball team ‘Gilas Pilipinas’, together with the coaching staff led by Coach Tab Baldwin, recently went to Greece, Turkey and Italy for their 17-day training camp in preparation for the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament, which will start tomorrow, July 5 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The national team includes the ‘Dota Boys’ Marc Pingris and June Mar Fajardo, named after the computer game Dota which the two love to play. Pingris and Fajardo were roommates again in this out of town trip.
The Gilas fans also drew attention to the formation of a new tandem in the name of Terrence Romeo and Bobby Ray Parks, who refer to themselves as the ‘Ming Ming Brothers’.
