A couple of Gilas Pilipinas players faced off in the Barangay Ginebra vs San Miguel Beer match in the 2018 PBA Governors Cup. Christian Standhardinger led SMB with 25 points while Alex Cabagnot scored 10 points in a loss against Ginebra. Scottie Thompson with 5 points for Ginebra who missed the services of Japeth Aguilar due to an injury. Marcio Lassiter also missed the game for SMB due to sore eyes.

Japeth Aguilar known for his dunks made a step-back three-pointer at the buzzer as Ginebra beat Meralco, 83-82. Barangay Ginebra was down by 5 points with 15 seconds left in the game as center Jay-R Reyes made a 3-pointer to cut the lead to 2, 82-80. Then Meralco guard John Wilson missed two free throws giving Ginebra a chance to tie the game or win in regulation but LA Tenorio could not get a shot and passed to Japeth Aguilar who made his second buzzer beating 3-pointer this conference, the 1st one against Talk N Text.
