With a ragtag group assembled just weeks ago and last-minute insertions that doomed Gilas’ already humble expectations, the squad wrested the 19th Asian Games men’s basketball gold via a 70-60 decision over upstart powerhouse Jordan on Friday at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center in China.

Since 1951, our Philippine National Basketball Teams were able to take home the Gold Medal 5 times, in the 1st four Asian Games (1951, 1954, 1958, 1962) and in 2023. In between that, the closest we had was a Silver Medal in 1990, then Bronze medals in 1986 and in 1998 where Tim Cone was the head coach of our Philippine Centennial Team and also the coach of Gilas Pilipinas in 2023.
