Why Chot Reyes should be retained as Gilas Pilipinas Coach?
We all have been watching and reading comments by many so called experts calling on the resignation of Gilas Pilipinas Head Coach Chot Reyes.
We would like to hear the side of others who want to retain Chot Reyes as Gilas Pilipinas Coach. Why should he be retained as Gilas Pilipinas Coach?
A comment that we read is the experience by Chot Reyes in both the FIBA World Cup and Asian Games will be a great help in future tournaments as long as he learned something from it. Another issue is if we will have a new Head Coach, the players will need to learn a new system again and we do not know if that system will work against our opponents in Asia and the World.

Bakit ba palit kagad ang solusyon? Ganyan lagi. Laging half empty ang tingin sa baso. Ang nakikita lagi, mga mali, mga pangakong hindi natupad, which is mga maliliit na bagay. Look at it this way, ang program ng gilas, when it started, we were shooting for the moon, but we all knew it was impossible. We were even counted to finish last. We orbited the moon, and we were jubilant! Hooray! Everyone was proud to be a Filipino. Pero dun pa lanğ sa world cup, obvious na na may mali. We cant finish the whole game. Wake up people! Gilas is a very young team compared to this international powerhouses. Let them commit their mistakes and learn from it.
Entyende?
The coaches of the teams Gilas went up against at the last World Cup had fits and a hard time reading the Filipinos’ game, thus keeping them off balance. Different starting fives for Gilas for every game, a different player erupting with points each time. Wow, Jimmy Alapag is right in saying that Gilas introduced the Philippine brand of basketball to the world–which is neither American nor European in style. Always up-tempo and seemingly unstructured, it plays into the innate strengths of Filipinos and compensates for their lack of height. daredevil lay-ups, dizzying ball rotation, and kick-outs to outside and perimeter shooters have been a joy to watch.
Do you think set plays (for instance, the triangle offense)usually favored by PBA players will work against much taller defenders? I say keep Chot Reyes as national coach!
Si Coach Tim na mismo nagsabi, continuity of the PROGRAM is at utmost importance.
Coach Chot should still be the coach of Gilas. Even tough we we’re just able to get 1 win in the world stage it is a huge win a moral booster for the players and for the country. In Asiad we got the worst finished of team Philippines but yet the whole Gilas family didn’t lose hope, they fought for our country. The Philippine basketball was introduced to the world in a huge statement last FIBA Asia. We got a golden silver then a ticket for FIBA World where we proved that the Philippines is not just a country that should be taken care for granted. Everything that happened will not be possible without coach Chot. He organize the Gilas program and choose the right players who can execute well the dribble drive offense, which is effective for us Filipinos because of our size disadvantage. He was able to connect each member of the team and make them a family. That was not an easy job to do specially when you don’t have time. But coach Chot did it. I think they will have pretty good chances now for future battles because of the experiences and especially the bond as a family aiming for their one ultimate goal. They will improve and they will be in the same rhythm til the end. They just need time to practice more, construct new plays, gain experiences from the past and grow more as a team. Coach Chot needs time with his team and he will be able to solve the flaws in their team, mistakes that they had committed and might commit. Coach Chot knows what he is doing and what is the best for the team so even the odds are against us i know we can conquer it. Go Gilas! Don’t lose hope! Fight till the end we always got your back. God bless. Puso!
This Gilas stint is actually Chot’s second crack at being the national coach.
His way of handling Gilas these past two tournaments brings back a vauge memory of a national team game in the not so recent past…. Chot was also the head coach then. There was less than a minute left in this game when he went overboard and kept on complaining from the sidelines and was called for a technical foul. …The opponent consequently made the awarded technical freethrow. …This happened during a very crucial period of the game with less than a minute left while we we’re trying to catch up. Andy Jao and Quinito Henson were the commentators of that Game and I remember that Olsen Racela might have been a part of that team.
We lost that game by one point.
Then and now Chot has shown that he lets his emotions get the best of him especially during crucial situations. You can’t count on him to make the right decision because he’s too emotional and can’t think right under pressure.
You’ve had your fare share of chances coach. You can’t say you weren’t given a shot. Thanks for everything. Please step down.
I stiil thinks Coach Chot needs to retain his job. He still the best fits for the program. Bigyan pa natin sya ng chance to redeem himself.
Years ago even before MVP came into the picture, Chot coached the RP team and was responsible for a crucial blunder at the sideline leading to a technical freethrow by the opponent which caused us to lose the game by a point. It was a game against Korea I believe.
Gilas is Chot’s second chance… but some things never change. He still chokes under pressure. Thank you Chot.. Please step down.
I hope coach chot learned much in gilas stint to fiba world and asian games and if ever he will have a chance to call for the gilas again, i hope he will apply those learnings and do better coaching next time around.
When the team is way ahead in the first 3 quarter then lose down the stretch, imo, there’s some problem the coaching strategy…
Hey dude why are you calling those people commenting against the performance of coach chot “so called experts?” do you need to be an expert just to see what is right from wrong? How about those personalities like Ramon Fernandez blasting chot is he a so called expert? Hey dude, be mindful of what you are trying to portray, Philippines is a basketball crazy country and most people are well learned about the sports. Your shallow reasoning of retaining chot just because of a new system might not work is very absurd. We’ve seen already the capabilities of chot it is proven by the result. I never had a lot of lost of heart before but now just becoz of his many ill fated decision esp during clutch time. I guess better if he just resign and pass all the knowledges over to the new coach and let that new mentor do his task to better it and provide solutions and adjustment the team really needed. Hard headed like Chot can not be change, he will stay the same. i’m sure about that. So he needs to change.
