Why Chot Reyes should be retained as Gilas Pilipinas Coach?
We all have been watching and reading comments by many so called experts calling on the resignation of Gilas Pilipinas Head Coach Chot Reyes.
We would like to hear the side of others who want to retain Chot Reyes as Gilas Pilipinas Coach. Why should he be retained as Gilas Pilipinas Coach?
A comment that we read is the experience by Chot Reyes in both the FIBA World Cup and Asian Games will be a great help in future tournaments as long as he learned something from it. Another issue is if we will have a new Head Coach, the players will need to learn a new system again and we do not know if that system will work against our opponents in Asia and the World.

End games struggle in World Cup and the same end game struggle in Asian Cup. Did he learned from mistakes? Nope I presume with the way they played Asian Cup. Other countries will definitely prepare for us in the next games and we won’t survive with the same strategies. Why not get a coach from the retiring Gilas players? Or get a coach with international exposure and retain these hardworking players? Coach Chot already made a great contribution in our country by making a mark in the worldwide stage. Our team already realized that we belong in the world stage. We just need a more experienced coach.
Ser, napakonte lang naman kasi ng pagitan between the world cup and the asian games. We had to deal with the roster issue pa. Hindi naman magikero ang management and the coaching staff para masunod yung gusto mo.
coach ikw lmg ang nkpag sbayn isa tlo ntin sa fiba world s greece lng tyo ntalo itoloy m ang lban ng gilas mnlo mtlo lban puso………….
We beat china by a mere coincidence and we won silver in fiba asia bcoz of homecourt advantage. That leap us on the ranking and not by the coach
i agree to that mr Grewolf…
I believe that there was only one lesson learned from the World Cup … never underestimate the “puso” of your opponent … they nearly paid the price.
For us, what have we learned … ? I’ll leave that to the power that be. On the other hand … next time we qualify to international play … they will come prepared for us and we must be ready mentally, physically & emotionally. We must prepare long, choose the best skilfully suited of our players and use them. We choose the best of our players that they would not end up as somewhat like benchwarmer. Player’s time management that in the end our players are not that exhausted and are ready for a long 15 days daily haul.
Retain Chot or otherwise?
The dribble, drive & pass to open man strategy worked well at the World Cup with Blatched. Next time, they can figure out it how to counter this style. There must have several options. Without Blatched Gilas was not the same in the Asian Games. In fairness to Douthit, the coached must be able to adjust and make do of what’s available to him. I believe that he knows that fully well now … he and his assistancts gained a lot of meaningful experience from these international exposure and it’s a waste not to utilize these experience.
Not only the players is called “Gilas”. The TEAM is GILAS and we are proud of them including the coach and his assistants.
Move on GILAS! Move on Pilipinas! CHEERS for the next FIBA Asia! See you in the 2016 Rio Olympics!
mr don corleone me personal ka bang galit ke chot
MR.Rem…natuto ba coach Chot?may mga pagbabago ba sa mga last quarter play ng Gilas from FIBA world to ASIAN games?
ang tanong natuto ba?
coach chot pahinga k muna u have ur chace… may npatunayan kn pero kulang p. to the management of gilas y not try mr. tim c. PBA palang alam muna ang ky niyang gawin…y not try him for the world…
Sino na coach ng SMCoff? Yan ang tanong ng SMCorp
Finally, a venue where I can vent out my opinion. Here is why Chot should not be replaced:
1. He is the only LOCAL coach with international experience.
2. He has developed a system (dribble drive) that has been proven to work given our size disadvantage!
3. He is respected by his hand picked players. (Even the Douthit issue was resolved and was described as a father scolding a son kinda thing).
4. If we change the coach! We will all go back to square one. Why? New coach, new system, new coach, new set of players he trusts. This is really a huge disadvantage given that the best players are professional players in our country and they have their own committments in their respective mother teams. I dont see them coping to a new coach and system to give us a decent representation in the international tournaments given the leagues draining schedule. 3 ang conference nang PBA how do you expect players to cope in 3 months? Guess what Chot was able to pull it off.
5. If we replace Chot? Who should we replace him with? Tim Cone? With all do respect with Mr. Cone his triangle has done wonders in the PBA because its the perfect system for SMC but I don’t see that working when you are clearly undersized.
So yeah he should stay as the head Coach for the program.
About the play where we scored on the opponents basket? Hey a guys gotta do what he has to do! Damn if you do and damned if don’t right? Here’s a question though what if that goal was counted and if the game turned into over time and we won by 11? I guess this won’t be a discussion.
Kuhaaaa???
– ONLY local coach with international experience? Sure ka dre?? Anu tawag mo kay yeng guiao at jong uichico, referee? Paki double check po.
– developed dribble drive?? Sure ka dre? Kelan ka start nanuod? Probably you mean ‘often utilizes’?
-Nobody will select players that are disrespectful. Oh c’mon!
– Scoring to a goal you are protecting is really not allowed in this tournament. How come he doesn’t know that? It really shows how ineffective he is during end games and he’s not checking the rules at all.
Pero I also feel Tim Cone is not the right guy because undersized line up tayo para sa system na expert sya. Yeng Guiao is a good fit because he’s good at using small line-ups.
Just Saying.
I think your first question should be like this before Chokeee executed the his plan of shooting the ball into the opponent favor did he read, understand the rules of the tournament?
I’ve seen all the games from Fiba asia, world, asian games di sya natuto,we need our big guys badly, sadly coach chot never realized that….he should resign
I get the point of staying positve and being gracious in dealing with others, but let’s be objective and not look over the fact that blowing a big lead and losing a winnable game has been the prevalent theme of how Chot pilots a team these past two tournaments. I know you’re a good choach Chot!…but we have such a wealth of talented coaches with different styles here in the Philippines. You were given your chance coach Chot…and you deserve that. We appreciate your efforts coach. Now Please step down.
2012 Jones Cup champs after 14 years, Silver in 2013 Fiba Asia Championship that made us qualify (not by being host) in the 2014 world cup of basketball after 40 years! and for the first time we got a medal in the 2014 FIBA Asia Cup. But we shouldnt go back to zero just because of the Asiad performance! New coach means new style and need more time for training (which I doubt will be given to the chosen players and if the new coach is a current head coach of the PBA teams). so lets still give coach Chot a chance because despite the heartbreak of Asiad he still gives us progress in most of the tournaments. Plus as coach Yeng said he has the full time to coach the national team!
