What’s your message to Calvin Abueva?
“Abueva” was one of the trending topics on twitter the day Gilas Pilipinas Final 12 was announced not because he was included in the line-up but his exclusion was a shock to many basketball fans.
I know we all think that we need The Beast Calvin Abueva in Gilas Pilipinas for the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament but we must support the decision of Coach Tab Baldwin and the Coaching Staff to put him in the reserve list.
I am sure it was a very difficult decision by the Coaching Staff but it is time to move on and give our all out support to Gilas Pilipinas!

hello po. marami pong nagagalit at humahanga sa inyo tuwing may laban kayo sa pba kase you are one of the best player ngayong time.and all of us are aware po what you are capable to do and what you can contribute sa Gilas for the upcoming tournament. Masakit pong isipin na you exerted all your effort and yet, they are still looking for something. hindi mo po yun kawalan. its just that siguro po hindi mo po talaga time para irepresent yung country natin.in His perfect timing po, I know na lahat ng Pilipinoand even other basketball fans all over the world, mapapahanga mo. I hope one day, you will represent our country and in that time, mas malakas ka na po, mas magaling, at wala na po silang masasabi. Never lose hope, the beast. Your fans are still waiting for you.

alam nyo mga fans ng basketball kung talagang marunong kau maiintindihan natin kung bakit nawala si calvin and LA its hard to make a decission to the coaching staff na wag po kaung magagalit sa knila…. kaya mabuting gawin natin we support nalang natin ung mga players ng gilas para sa bansa natin and beside malaki rin nman talaga naitulong ni calvin and the past fiba asia and jones cup saludo po ako sau idol calvin lalong lalo na ke L.A
In Defense of “The Beast”.
Calvin Abueva.
He entered the league nicknamed “The Beast” for his enormous effort whether it be on scoring, rebounding, defense, and everything. A 6’2″ player who averaged 15 points a game and 12 rebounds is simply remarkable considering his height and his rivals’ height that averaged 6’7″, 6’8″, or 6’9″. “Height is might.” they say, but Abueva fought his way up and earned double figures in the rebounding department. EXCEPTIONAL.
Yes, he doesn’t have a superb talent in creating his own shot. He doesn’t possess the skill of a tip-top handles. He doesn’t have that splendid shooting. He doesn’t have all of these. But, trust me, he doesn’t lack effort. In fact, when he is on the court, he is everywhere! I repeat, EVERYWHERE. As what he said in his Kuwentong Gilas episode, “Nung bata ako, hindi ako nag training ng pag dribble o pag crossver, sipag at tiyaga lang talaga!”. He will never be called The Beast for nothing.
He has that ball of energy that will not wear out. Fatigue is not part of his dictionary. HE DOESN’T EVEN KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS. He is a machine. He will never tire! Whenever the team lacks energy, turn to Abueva, and you will never regret. NOT ONE.
Defense. He is known for his a-little-less-than-dirty defense. He is even known as an “Import Stopper”. How amazing it is, that a 6’2″ guy can defend 6’7″, 6’8″ guys who are brawnier than him, faster than him. EFFORT. DEFENSE. A Filipino player who can equal a good foreign import. AMAZING.
He just lost 3 consecutive Finals trip against San Miguel. Lost a Game 7 twice. Lost in a series wherein they are one win shy from winning the championship but was snatched by the mighty San Miguel – a historic series. Lost in a series wherein they never won a single game. But these never stopped him from reaching his goal. He fought and reached another Finals appearance against an injury-hit Rain or Shine. And again, unfortunately, they lost. But this does not stopped him, he participated the 2-week Gilas training in Greece, Turkey, and Italy only to find out that he will not be part of the Final 12 lineup. HEARTBREAKING.
I hope these will not stop him from being the usual Calvin Abueva. I hope these will not stop him for being the “The Beast” I’ve known since 2012. I HOPE THESE HAVE TRIGGERED SOMETHING EXPLOSIVE INSIDE HIM………
Idol ramdam ko sakit na nararamdaman mo ngayon sana pag uwi mo sa family mo maging ok ka na..nandito lang kami na mga naniniwala sayo palagi ka namin susuportahan at di ka namin iiwan.kagaya ng sinabi mo “baka may ibang plan si God!”para sayo..wag kang susuko calvin at sana mas lalu mo pang galingan para mawala na lahat ng pag aalinlangan nila sa kakayahan mo..isa kang halimbawa ng tunay na filipino na sipag at puso ang puhunan para magtagumpay..WE LOVE THE BEAST!!!!

Hindi mo man ako fan (actually I don’t like how you play sa PBA hehe ✌) pero I have respect on you pagdating sa Gilas,you may not be included in the Final line up for the OQT but always remember Calvin there’s always a next time.Thank You for serving the country,thank you for all your sacrifices.
