Next Smart Gilas Team?
Marcus Douthit
After the 2011 FIBA Asia Championship in Wuhan, China which will be held in September 15-25, 2011 (2012 London Olympics Qualifier), the core of the Smart Gilas National Basketball Team will have a revamp since most players have applied for the PBA Rookie Draft and will surely be top picks.
The Smart Gilas program has been extended until the 2013 FIBA-Asia Championship which the top three teams will qualify for the 2014 FIBA World Championship.
Marcus Douthit and Chris Tiu will lead the new Smart Gilas Team along with Greg Slaughter and Aldrech Ramos. Other names have popped up on the list of Smart Gilas players like Kiefer Ravena, Bobby Ray Parks and more collegiate players.
Who do you think should be included in the next Smart Gilas Team?
According to inquirer.net, MVP is eyeing champions ADMU and SSC-R’s stars to play for Smart Gilas 2.
ADMU: Greg Slaughter and Kiefer Ravena
SSC-R: Ian Sanggalang and Calvin Abueva

Greg can be a beast inside the paint if Douhit is not on the court while Keifer can slash through the basket and score with either a layup or a teardrop shot over his defender. At the SSC-R’s side, Sanggalang’s position is center but I don’t think he can play it since his height is not suitable for that position since he will be playing against guys taller than him. Abueva is not only a beast who can drive to the basket, score with several moves in the paint, but he can defend taller defender (example: SUDAN DANIEL, a former San Beda Red Lion) that have proven since joining NCAA.
These guys can be impressive substitute players for Gilas and I would be glad to see them play for the country.
puro kc bata sinasama… ibang usapan na FIBA.. dapat magagaling saka proven na.

Coach Chot is a good choice to be the national team couch, if i’m the one who will choose the national players i would prefer the original smart gilas combined with the superstars in the pba and cadets of the collegiate league, deep roster for competing internationally.
