Gilas Pilipinas Head Coach Tab Baldwin is set to name the Final 12 Players who will play for Gilas Pilipinas in the 2016 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament this Sunday, June 26 after their Pocket Tournament in Bologna, Italy.
Gilas Pilipinas will face Italy on June 25 while China will go up against Canada, the winner of the Gilas vs Italy game will face the winner of the China vs Canada game on June 26 while the losing teams will also play against each other.
According to Baldwin, only Andray Blatche and June Mar Fajardo have guaranteed slots, which means 2 player from the remaining 12 (Calvin Abueva, Japeth Aguilar, Jayson Castro, Jeff Chan, Ranidel De Ocampo, Gabe Norwood, Bobby Ray Parks, Marc Pingris, Ryan Reyes, Terrence Romeo, Troy Rosario and LA Tenorio) will be put on the reserve list.
1. Troy Rosario – still young although good exposure for him but we should choose player that will help to build a strong team for QQT.
2. LA Tenorio – Had experienced and shined during FIBA World, but it seems his energy is fading and may not sustain it during QQT and Rio Olympics. With the coming of Terence Romeo and Ray Parks, its time for LA to be in reserve, considering that both Terence and Ray have all the energy and enthusiasm, which make the Gilas team more quick and exciting for the filipino audience.
3. Ryan Reyes – His 3-points worked during Iran Tune-up, but has not yet actually proven his worth, however, he can be best substitute of Jeff Chan.
