2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China
The 2023 Asian Games will be held in Hangzhou, China from September 23 to October 8, 2023. The 19th Asian Games was supposed to take place from September 10-25, 2022 but was postponed due to the Covid Pandemic. Basketball in the 2023 Asian Games will be held from September 26 to October 6, 2023
In Men’s basketball, Gilas Pilipinas is in Group C with Jordan, Bahrain and Thailand. Games will be played at the following competition venues: Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre Gymnasium, Zhejiang University Zijingang Gymnasium and Shaoxing Olympic Sports Centre Gymnasium.
As of now, Gilas Pilipinas has no head coach for the Asian Games since Coach Chot Reyes stepped aside as head coach of Gilas Pilipinas right after their last game against China in the 2023 FIBA World Cup.
Accoording to some reports, Justin Brownlee who should have been our naturalized player in the Asian Games replacing Jordan Clarkson (who will be back in the US for Utah Jazz Training Camp) is reported as day-to-day due to an undisclosed operation recently.
Also, Gilas players who has a contract outside the Philippines like Dwight Ramos, Kiefer Ravena, AJ Edu, Kai Sotto, Rhenz Abando as well as Gilas Pilipinas pool players Thirdy Ravena and Ray Parks Jr. will not be available for the Asian Games.
Left from the Gilas Line up in the World Cup who should be available for the Asian Games: June Mar Fajardo, Roger Pogoy, Scottie Thompson, Jamie Malonzo, Japeth Aguilar, CJ Perez and the 13th cut from the Gilas FIBA World Cup Roster, Chris Newsome.
