Strong Group Athletics captures Jones Cup Title
Strong Group Athletics who represents Philippines in the 2024 Jones Cup won the Championship after defeating Chinese-Taipei A in overtime, 83-79 held in New Taipei City, Taiwan.
Import Tajuan Agee led SGA with 21 points along with 9 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals. Kiefer Ravena scored 9 points including a crucial three-point shot to take the lead at the end of regulation before Taiwan made a shot to force overtime.
RJ Abarrientos played well with 14 points and was 4 out of 8 from the three-point line. Chris McCollough had a subpar performance scoring only 12 points with 5 rebounds. Jordan Heading scored only 4 points but made 2 crucial free throws in overtime. Derrick Fenner Jr. scored 15 points for SGA.
Robert Hinton led Chinese-Taipei A with 16 points as they settled for 2nd place.
SGA swept the tournament going 8-0 and beat the host team in their last game to take the title. There is no championship game in the Jones Cup but the team with the best record wins the tournament.
