it’s alright guys… there’s always another chance so dapat nxt battle galingan nyo na… alam nmin na gnawa nio ang lhat but there’s a reason kung bkit gnawa ng Diyos na matalo kayo…. cheer up!!! ^_^
What can I say? Our team did their best (at least they think they did), but it wasn’t good enough. We played hard but we didn’t play to our potential, maybe, because of lack of international experience playing together or jelling together for a long time with the same players. I really blame the PBA as it degraded the potentials of our basketball players over the course of basketball development in the Philippines. It is never a reason that we are too short or not big enough, because our speed and basketball IQ makes us competitive. We know we are short, so, we should work more hard to make everyone (even our forward and centers) who plays basketball in our country develop more consistent dribbling skills with consistent pull-up jumpers, mid-range jumpers and drive-hard to the basket plays. We should develop a KILLER INSTINCT to avoid playing catch-up games to powerhouse teams in Asia like Iran, China and Korea, or even to an old-tired Jordanian team. To add more validation to my opinion, the Philippine Basketball Association should have a sense of urgency to change its rules to FIBA rules, for our players to have more familiarity, consistency and complexity on international game situations with regularity. Being called a “professional league” is just a name, when we actually don’t need to use the term professional just to make us a basketball country, ALA NBA. Please, if we can just accept our flaws as nation and quit the “sariling-papuri” mentality that we injure for so many courses of competition, Philippine basketball can be champions, and it won’t be next year, nor in the next FIBA ASIA, but it will be NOW!!! We all have had enough tears for years.
Kaunti pa kaya niyo yan!!!
As much as I hate reading Recah Trinidad’s Inquirer article because of his often times super negative criticism and Gilas bashing, he always has a point. Like today’s article (Sept. 29 2011) he pointed out that the last 5 shots scored by the Korea squad, 3 out of 5 were shots taken from the so called “wrong foot” practiced by Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant and played to perfection by Dirk Norwitzki which in my opinion is Soo True.. If you’re really a fan of basketball and watch the different basketball styles all over the world you will see that majority of the European players use this technique which was popularized by a korean basketball player in the 70′s. I remember back when i was watching the 1990 Asian games and saw for the first time how other asian countries played, my basketball fanatic friends and I would laugh at how funny the Korea and China team played. Their lay-ups and shooting looked awkward and funny (layman’s term “Balibag-Tae”). Unknowingly it would be the foundation of the power house Asian teams like China and Korea and world champoin teams like Spain, Argentina and Germany.. My point is this Basketball Heads in our country should put an end to their useless politicking and have one goal which is to save Philippine Basketball and go straight to the grass roots program. I still hate Recah Trinidad for Being so negative but i still thank him for proving a point and i still read his articles. 😛

Nakakainis kayo panoorin! Mga bwisit! Lamang kayo 1st hangang 4th. Pinahirapan nyo sarili nyo at pinabayaan nyo humabol. Wag na kayo mangarap ulit sumali sa fiba or jones cup or sea games. Mag pba nlang kayo at mag ilusyon na magaling kayo. U guys suck ass!
Its alrite guyz, even in the Nba teams lose in the 4th qrter in the playoffs, u guyz definately got the talent and chemistry but not that much experience i reckon next time you guys would be in the running for gold. 🙂
Wilhelm ayos naniniwala talaga ko diyan…
Go Fight!!!
Laban!!!
masakit man cnabi ni ‘disappointed’ pero may punto sya.. sinayang nyo ang 3rd place, at slot sa qualifying round chance para sa London olympic..eh ‘in the bag’ na nga etong game eh… tanso na naging tae pa….
may point nga alam na natin yun ayusin man lang sana niya yung pagcomment di ba…
Stop hating and just be proud. 😀 Kasi after all, kahit undersized tayo, lumaban tayo at di umurong. Yan ang pusong Pinoy! Intindihin rin natin sila. 9 out of the last 11 days naglaro sila.
TO YOU MR. DISAPPOINTED
ITS EASY FOR YOU TO JUST MAKE BAD COMMENTS REGARDING OUR PLAYERS WHO PLAYED IN FIBA, IKAW KAYA ANG MAGLARO DOON, KAHIT SIGURO KALINKINGAN WALA KANG IBUBUGA…
I believe so much in this team not unil the semifinals match. Andun na bakit dun pa nagkalokoloko. Nawala ang teamwork at motvaion. Kakainis.
No one to blame but yourself! Even if you filled in a full Filam line up still the same system 20 years ago. Get a legit tall players teach them basics footwork & shooting. i observe filipino small players tend to dribble most of the time.but if less dribling less error and more passes will create a shot. i wanna see the kinds of tall players Aquino,Paras,Seigle Bros,Feihl,Fernandez & Caidic in the future of fil basketball. But instead of going forward your getting backawrd by getting small players. that’s why PBA poularity decrease all are small & skill is limited it doesn’t exite the fans. You should learn from China,Korea Jordanian how their maximze their height in diff position.
Kaylangan ba talaga na matangkad lahat…

I love Smart Gilas. I love our Philippine Team.
I really dont want to say anything negative about Smart Gilas. I watched all their games and believe that they did their best.
Nonetheless, there are some things that needs to be addressed.
I believe that they should have used JAPETH AGUILAR more. What is the purpose of getting him from America, training for YEARS and not using him? Even just his height? Remember when our previous teams used EJ FEIHL? Cmon now, JAPETH AGUILAR is way better.
I am really bothered by LUTZ and BARROCA. Their game is very suspicious to me.
Ika nga sa salitang basketbol, SUSPEK ANG LARO NG MGA TO.
I mean they are good but… dont we have CYRUS BAGUIO and GABE NORWOOD (for Lutz)? Well, you can have better players in mind but these guys are way better than Lutz (for me personally of course no offense to Lutz).
Dont we have Willie Milller, Jason Castro, Sol Mercado or even LA Tenorio (for Barroca)?
I mean, if we really are going for it we should have given our best. Right PBA Teams?
MVP already gave everything this team needs. Finances, Moral Support, the Letter to reinstate Lutz and Lassiter, and etc.
I do believe that we are in the right track.
I feel really sad, but I have been like this to Philippine Basketball ever since Olsen Racela missed that free throw and that Lee guy drained the three at the buzzer.
In short, same old same old. But we need to change! Right PBA Teams?
Love,
Smart Gilas Fan and a Professional Coach!
By the way, Coach Chot Reyes used GABE NORWOOD as a Point Guard then. Why not train this guy to be a BETTER point guard. That is what we lacked against other teams JORDAN and CHINA. Their Point Guards are BIG and FAST. Our PGs are great shooters and playmakers. They are the best, OFFENSIVELY. Even Chris Paul I think would agree.
But we need DEFENSE against Wright (of Jordan) and other BIGGER PGs. GABE NORWOOD is the only player I have in mind as a BIG PG that can provide GOOD DEFENSE. We need a BIG (for Defense) and a FAST (for fastbreak, like the way Jimmy Alapag runs the floor, how I wish he was 6’3 or 6’4).
We now have offense in Douhit, Kelly Williams and Ranidel De Ocampo. We dont have any defense of a BIG PG.
PGs of other teams are not as great a shooter as Jimmy Alapag or JV Casio. But, they are BIG and Fast. I think we should follow.
GABE NORWOOD needs to be a POINT GUARD for better Defense and better Fastbreak in which we thrive!
Got anyone better?
tama…..bakit nd ninyo napansin c gabe norwood…my future cia for point guard, may magandang height cia at play….and also sol mercado….remember NBA vs Allstar sa PBA…c Sol Mercado lng ang nka gwa ng salaksak sa mga small player….as in “lay up” many times nia pa gnwa…..diff namn nang yari kay castro na pinakain ng puto…speaking of castro …at that time medyo nakaka ramdam narin cia ng injury…kya ganon cguro….Castro is better too…why dont u give him a chance??..although maliit ^^ hihihi…GUD Luck smart gilas……MGA IDOL
i agree with you but at the same time i disagree because Gabe Norwood is a choker and can’t think straight under pressure… just like half of the Gilas team… we still need the likes of Jimmy Alapag who plays better with the odds against him and stays focused under pressure.. De Ocampo is also a good choice because he showed courage and consistency throughout the tournament and is a fit in international brand of basketball… There are other PBA players who were more consistent and played with better determination and consistency in the past ASIAN games like Kerby Raymundo and Mic Pennisi..
In my own opinion we should change all our basketball rules to FIBA rules! that way we would be able to develop more and better shooters and more “TEAM” oriented players.
c penissi….buti backsout gawin nun..bka tulak offensive gawin nun…although na may height din cia at may shooting sa labas dami pang train dapt gawin un……c kerby pa ^^ da best yan…sa mga side step…at kyang mag power forward yan…last tym ksama cia nun sa Team Pilipinas halos cia lng ang gumagwa in the 4th quarter pandikit sa Iran…banggaan laban sa malalaki ng IRAN cla Haddadi ata un kng tama ako…….at naging worst reason kng bat natalo ang pinas…..sa kaka reklamo ni chot reyes….^^for sure….marami pang nakaka alala ng time na yan….kya nga kumuha ng couch na may experience sa international…..—-Couch T——
I love SMART GILAS too!!!
I think kaya nandun yung mga players na iba cause they never played for PBA, uhm sa tingin ko hindi pa PBAish yung laro nila since sabi nga ng iba, iba ang FIBA so mas madali silang turuan ng FIBAish game yung mga taga PBA naman na nandun nilagay sila kasi sa tingin ko mas experienced sila so pagminix mo eh balanced…
pati ako naguluhan sa reply ko…
Wala pa ring mental toughness at killer instinct ang team. It was a game that we Should have won but still lost. Unfortunately, these qualities can only be attained through experience.I just hope that the batch of gilas team members will show more composure during the end games. But 4th place is not bad. But if we were favorites to make it to the finals because of the semis match up, 4th is disappointing. Our loss to Jordan was painful. But our loss to Korea hurts much more because it was already a “won” game
They need more experience kaya konting hintay lang marami pa naman silang tournament na sasalihan
How come Hindi naglaro si japeth?
Bakit nga kaya hindi?
TO: MR. DISAPPOINTED
HOW DARE YOU SAY THAT TO OUR FELLOW FILIPINO, SA PANANALITA MO LANG, ALAM NA AGAD KUNG ANONG KLASENG TAONG NILALANG KA….
