Gilas Pilipinas Men ousts Indonesia to move a win away from 2019 SEA Games gold
The Gilas Pilipinas Men national team used a scorching third quarter rally to weather Indonesia, 97-70 in the basketball semi-finals of the 30th Southeast Asian Games Philippines 2019 on Monday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila.
The Philippines outscored the Rajko Toroman-coached Indonesia, 39-17 in the third quarter, hitting seven long-range shots that broke the game wide-open.
Christian Standhardinger had 14 points while Matthew Wright had 13 points and eight assists.
Chris Ross, who has been quiet offensively, fired 11 points including three triples in the third quarter to go along with four rebounds and six assists.
It took a while for Gilas to establish control, but they opened up a double-digit advantage late in the second quarter behind back to back baskets from Vic Manuel.
Later, Indonesia put up a string of three straight triples to pull within 43-37.
But a 20-2 run which included Chris Ross outside shots finally enabled the Philippines to cruise in the third frame, 63-39.
The Philippines shot 64 percent overall from the field, and had 31 assists.
Juan Laurent Kokodiputra topscored for Indonesia with 20 points while veteran guard Abraham Grahita contributed 14 points.
Earlier, Thailand outlasted Vietnam, 101-95 to set up a gold medal rematch against the hosts.
