Gilas Pilipinas beat Thailand led by Gomez de Liano brothers
Back-to-back wins by Gilas Pilipinas against Thailand in the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers held in Manama, Bahrain. In their 1st match, Philippines beat Thailand by 32 points and in their 2nd game last November 30, 2020 they beat Thailand by 24 points, 93-69.
The Gomez de Liano brother led Gilas with 19 points for Javi (4/4 from 3 and 3/4 from 2) and 14 points for Juan (4/6 from 3). Dwight Ramos with 13 points and 5 rebounds while Matt Nieto scored 12 points but had an ankle injury in the 3rd quarter.
Philippines outrebounded Thailand, 52-41 led by Justine Baltazar with 11 rebounds and Isaac Go with 10 rebounds (7 offensive).
Gilas Pilipinas had an 11-0 start but Thailand had a great run to make the game close at the start of the 2nd quarter before a big explosion by Philippines to end the 1st half, 53-34. Chanatip Jakrawan led Thailand with 34 points.
Philippines finished the FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers November 2020 Window with 2 wins and now with a total of 3 wins in Group A while Thailand lost their 3rd straight game and now 0-4 in the FIBA Qualifiers.
