Gilas Pilipinas beat Taiwan Mustangs led by Dwight Ramos
Gilas Pilipinas defeated Taiwan Mustangs, 74-64 in an exhibition match in preparation for the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament. Dwight Ramos led Philippines with 19 points (4/5 from 3) and also with 3 rebounds and 4 steals.
Gilas Pilipinas played with just 11 players as Scottie Thompson will miss the FIBA OQT due to a back injury and Coach Tim Cone will not look for a replacement and will just use 11 players.
Justin Brownlee with 12 points and 15 assists for Gilas, while Kai Sotto contributed 9 points. June Mar Fajardo scored 8 points and Carl Tamayo with 7 points including a buzzer beater 3 to end the 1st quarter.
Alex Cabagnot who plays for Taiwan Mustangs scored 13 points, also with Taiwan are former PBA player Rashawn McCarthy and Ateneo center Geo Chiu. 7 foot 4 Samuel Deguara scored 10 points as he played physical in the paint against Kai Sotto and June Mar Fajardo.
Next for Gilas Pilipinas are tune-up games against Turkey and Poland in Turkey before facing Latvia and Georgia in the FIBA OQT to be held in Latvia.
