Gilas Pilipinas beat Syria by 54 for 5th place
Gilas Pilipinas defeated Syria, 109-55 in the Battle for 5th place in the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia. Jordan Clarkson led Philippines with 29 points along with 6 assists and 4 rebounds.
Another stellar game by Christian Standhardinger as he finished with 27 points and 15 rebounds. Gilas Pilipinas finished with 35 assists compared to only 13 by Syria and also a big advantage in rebounding, 67-39.
Asi Taulava contributed 11 points including 3 three-point shots. Stanley Pringle scored 10 points. James Yap, who missed their previous 2 games due to an ankle injury scored 9 points.
Philippines had a hot start as they finished the 1st quarter with a 22 point lead, 38-16. They also limited Syria to just 10 points in the 3rd period.
Philippines settled for 5th place and surpassed the 7th place finish in the 2014 Asian Games.
