Gilas Pilipinas beat Japan led by Castro
Gilas Pilipinas defeated Japan, 77-71 led by Jayson Castro with 20 points (3/5 from 3) along with 7 rebounds and 6 assists in their 1st game of the 2019 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers held in Tokyo.
Andray Blatche with a double double – 13 points and 12 rebounds. Matthew Wright scored 12 points while Gabe Norwood with 10 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals.
Jayson ‘The Blur’ Castro also made a couple of crucial baskets in the 4th quarter. Philippines shot 44.2% from the field while Japan shot only 36.2% at home.
Makoto Hiejima led Japan with 20 points while Ira Brown with 10 points and 15 rebounds.
Next game for Gilas Pilipinas will be against Chinese-Taipei on November 27 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
