Gilas Pilipinas beat Japan, 89-84 at home in the 2019 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers. Andray Blatche led Gilas with 18 points, 16 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals.
Troy Rosario scored 14 points (6/9 FGs) while Kiefer Ravena contributed 13 points and 5 assists. Jayson Castro with just 8 points including crucial back-to-back three-pointer in the 3rd quarter to keep Japan at bay and a big shot in the final minutes of the game.
Philippines outrebounded Japan, 47-29 but committed more turnovers, 15-12.
Calvin Abueva and Gabe Norwood with 8 points each. Philippines finished Window 2 of the FIBA Qualifiers with a 3-1 record. With this win, Gilas Pilipinas will advance to the next round of the Asian Qualifiers while Japan is now eliminated.
Next game will be against Chinese-Taipei on the road on June 29 and Australia on July 2 at home.
