Gilas Pilipinas beat Japan by 33, will play for 5th place
Gilas Pilipinas defeated Japan, 113-80 in the Classification for 5th-8th Place in the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia. Christian Standhardinger led Philippines with 27 points (11/14 FGs) along with 13 rebounds and 3 steals.
Jordan Clarkson got his 1st win for Gilas as he finished with 22 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists.
Paul Lee played well with 17 points and was 3/5 from 3. Philippines outrebounded Japan, 51-30 and shot 48% from the 3-point line making 12 out of 25. James Yap did not play for the 2nd straight game due to an ankle injury.
The game was tied at the end of the 1st quarter but Philippines took control at the end of the second quarter and led by 10 at the half, 57-47.
Japan played with only 8 players after the Japanese Olympic Committee revoked the accreditation of 4 of their players and sent them back to Japan after they were found to have spent the night with prostitutes in the red light district of Jakarta.
Philippines will face the winner of the Syria vs Indonesia game for 5th place on August 31.
