Batang Gilas beat Bahrain to enter semis and qualify for the FIBA U19 World Cup
Batang Gilas defeated Bahrain, 67-52 in the quarterfinals of the 2018 FIBA U18 Asian Championship in Thailand and have qualified for the 2019 FIBA U19 World Cup. Kai Sotto led Philippines with 21 points (17 in the 2nd half), 10 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 blocks including a couple of alley-oop dunks.
AJ Edu scored 16 points and grabbed 17 rebounds. Miguel Oczon scored 10 points for Batang Gilas while Dalph Panopio contributed 4 points, 4 rebounds and 8 assists.
Bahrain finished the 2nd quarter on a 21-0 run and limited Batang Gilas to only 6 points and led at the half, 34-26. Philippines controlled the 3rd quarter and led by 3 points heading into the final quarter, 48-45.
Batang Gilas dominated at both ends of the floor in the final quarter led by Kai Sotto, AJ Edu and Miguel Oczon.
Batang Gilas will face Australia in the Semifinals tomorrow, August 10.
